GREET BILLET

Greet Billet’s installations with foil and plexiglass reflect their surroundings, including the visitors to the space, in a distorted way. This makes the viewer very aware of his/her presence in the space and interaction with the artwork. Every movement he/she makes changes his/her perception of the work.
The works also capture light, and in a space with natural light the intensity of the colours changes depending on the weather conditions and the time of day. In bright sunlight, for example, the foil sheets appear very light (both in terms of weight and colour tone), while at nightfall they can appear thick, heavy and viscous.

The use of reflective materials proves essential in Greet Billet’s attempts to visualise light. However, the key to capturing light also lies in the repetition of the action: displaying the light again and again, through the mirrored materials, always adapted to the space in which they are located. In this way, the artist exposes the constantly changing conditions of light and the environment and shows that light can never really be captured completely.
